My name is Nancy Hall and I am a qualified Crochet Technical Editor.

I love everything about crochet and as a Crochet Pattern Designer myself I understand the benefit of having a pattern tech edited.

For me, it is akin to having someone mark your homework for you rather than trying to mark it yourself! You think you've covered everything but there is always something you've missed because you've been working on the pattern so long you just don't see it.

Before you publish a pattern for sale you want to be sure it is free of errors and inconsistencies so you can be confident it is the best it can be when you launch it.

What does a tech edit involve?

Every line of the pattern will be checked in detail and I will advise on the following areas:

• Whether UK or US terminology is used throughout and if any conversions are necessary

• If abbreviations are used but not explained

• Consistency of capital letters and abbreviations

• Grammar, spellings and punctuation

• Consistency throughout the pattern

• Sizing and gauge are as stated

• Formatting of document consistent

• Instructions that are needed are included

• Rows and rounds are correctly noted

• Making sure the pattern matches your style sheet (if provided)

• That stitch counts are correct

• Maths is correct, the pattern works

• Pattern matches schematics/charts (if provided)

• Yarn (colour to be used, brand, colour codes, amount to be used etc)

• Hooks (sizes used) and notions (stitch markers etc) are noted correctly

This is not the full list of what is checked as every pattern/item is different, but it gives you an indication of the depth into which your pattern will be checked to ensure it is ready for publication.

How to proceed

If you have a pattern you would like me to tech edit for you, then please email your complete pattern to me at nancy@craftingisourjazz.co.uk. I will then provide you with a quotation on price and the timescale I can get it back to you. We can discuss this if you have a date in mind that you are working to.

If you can provide the pattern in word, google docs or pdf format then I can make my comments and suggestions directly into this file and send it back to you.

Charges

My hourly rate is £20. This is charged in minute 15 increments.

If you require further checking of the pattern after the first edit and amendments are made, I will provide two further rechecks free of charge. Anything thereafter reverts to the hourly rate.
